Cannon Hill is located approximately five kilometres east of the Brisbane CBD and has an area of approximately 4.6 squared kilometres. It is surrounded by the neighbouring suburbs of Morningside, Murarrie, Tingalpa, Seven Hills, and Carina. Many main roads run through the suburb. These include Wynnum Road, Creek Road, Junction Road, Lang Street, Lytton Road, Barrack Road, Muir Street, Richmond Road, Fursden Road and more. Cannon Hill’s name is thought to have been named after the Cannon Hill House, a residence built in 1867 by an early European settler on Wynnum Road. After European settlement, the land was used by settlers for farming and grazing, however much of the area remained as bushland. In 1889, the Cleveland railway line was opened, travelling through Cannon Hill to Cleveland. Around the same time, blocks of land near the railway station was offered for sale as well as an estate.
